FCS Domestic Violence Prevention Program update, FDVEC Print E-mail
Wednesday, 07 July 2010
Hello there everyone,

Present in the meeting were: Eldred Laude, Mae-Ann Panitan, Lydia Palma, Myrna Victoriano, Conrado Saturay, Ralph and Venus Talarico and Emma Catague.
Meeting facilitated by Emma Catague.

1. Planning underway for our annual fundraising- Comedy-Dance night- October 29, 2010. Please save the date. Mae-Ann Panitan, Safety Center's intern, is coordinating this event. We will keep you posted with developments.

2. DV101 presentation with FAMRA (Filipino American Military Retired Assn.) in their September organizational meeting- FCS Boardmember Tom Landas-President.

3. Our goal is to get DV101, Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking presentations to at least 5 different Fil-Am organizations for 2010. It has not been very easy to get ourselves invited to organizational meetings. Please let us know if we can present to your affiliated organizations. We would appreciate the invitation. UGNAYAN is our outreach effort at this time.

4. Our first fund raising was very successful during the May 2010 Consulate on Wheels. We provided the food concession for 2 days and our goal was to raise $1500.00 and we raised $1445.00!!!

5. Our very own FDVEC brochure will be circulated by August 2010. We have been working on this one for a very long time now. We wanted it to be the best culturally sensitive brochure to our Fil-Am community.

6. We still partner with APIWFSC (Asian Pacific Islander Women and Family Safety Center). They support us all the way.

7. Hope to see you in our next meeting- JULY 12, 2010 6:00PM. We usually have light snacks before the meeting.

Thank you for your continued support. Stay safe. Together, we can prevent/stop domestic violence in our very own community. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Have a great day everyone,
Myrna V.

Budget Public Hearings, Seattle City Council and Mayor McGinn Print E-mail
Saturday, 01 May 2010

Seattle City Council and Mayor Mike McGinn

Budget Public Hearings by Aileen Trilles, FCS Board Member

April 28, 2010

New Holly Community Center

Attended by BM Aileen Trilles

______________________________________________________________

Notes on “Budget 101 and Budget Realities”

3.8 Billion:  2010 Adopted Budget

28% is made up of City’s Utilities

21% is made up of Public Utilities

8%   is made up of Transportation

14% is made up of Public Safety

29% is made up of Other (includes parks, human services, and neighborhoods)

Weak economy is creating the budget challenge. 119,000 jobs have been lost in Seattle metro areas (King and Snohomish Counties).

2010-2012 Budget Picture

The weak economy and past reliance on one-time budget balancing strategies are creating General Fund budget shortfalls.

·       2009 ended with a $4 million shortfall

·       a 12 million shortfall is now projected for 2010

It’s not only the General Fund that’s in trouble. The General Budget is also under strain.

Budget Process Overview

March-April:  Departments work with City Budget Office (CBO) to develop a baseline budget & identify priorities

The rest of the evening allowed the public to speak on issues of concern.  Two minutes were allocated to each speaker/group.  The groups voiced an overarching request for support for human services and parks/recreation centers to prevent homelessness, promote community centers, activities that prevent gang violence and promote education, support organizations that promote healthy living and provide services to communities with disabilities.
