October 2011 Family Academy Report Submitted by Nolette Serra, October 8, 2011 I. Philippine Language and Culture Class began its fall session on October 1, 2011. Teachers are Narcita Eugenio and Annabel Garcia-Andresen. Thanks to both teachers for their enthusiasm and new ideas for this year. Carmen and Cecilia Pelayre have volunteered as music teachers to teach Philippine songs to students this quarter. Kudos to Ever Eugenio for coordinating the student volunteers and daughter Evercita for preparing the classrooms and putting out the snacks for the children. There are approximately 15 students with new registrants still coming in. Some students from last session decided to participate only in Tropa Filipiniana.
II. Thanks to the parents who have been very supportive by driving students and bringing snacks. Thanks to Teachers Lyrma Santodomingo and Judy and Damian Cordova for their energy, patience, and dedication. Students are beginning to learn new dances with Spanish influence such as Carinosa and Estudiantina. There are about 25 students. New to Tropa this year are high school students who come to volunteer but also participate in the program. We are developing a new group of junior high and high school student Glee Club.
